Bishop Limmie N. Forbes, age 82, of 1714 Bynwood Drive SE, Wilson formerly of East Orange, NJ was called from labor to reward on Thursday, May 23, 2019.
Bishop Forbes was the founder of Faith Temple Church No. 1 in East Orange, NJ, Faith Temple Church No. 2 in Seat Pleasant, MD, and the L.N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle, Wilson, NC. Chosen by God and selected by the people, he served as the vice moderator of the Middle Eastern District Original Free Will Baptist Conference from 1964-68. He was elected president of the conference in 1968. Because of his vision and leadership, the conference grew tremendously. In 2013, Bishop Forbes retired as president of the Original Free Will Baptist Conference. He held various other positions and received many honorary degrees including bishop emeritus of the General Original Free Will Baptist Conference of America, former vice president of the National Convention of Free Will Baptists, USA, past president of the East Orange Clergy Organization, past president of the Hampton Ministers’ Conference of Hampton University, honorary doctorate of divinity degree from Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, honorary doctorate of divinity degree from New York Bible Institute and doctorate of humane letters in education from the United Christian College of Goldsboro. Bishop Forbes is the author of “The High Cost of Leadership.” He was truly a living example of love and concern. A legend of God has gone home.
A celebration of his life and legacy will begin with an inspirational wake and viewing on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 3 pm to 9 pm at Faith Temple Church #1 Original Free Will Baptist Church, 499 Main Street, East Orange, NJ. An inspirational wake will also be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 6 pm to 9 pm at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, 600 Watkins Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD. He will lie in state on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 6 pm to 9 pm at L.N. Forbes Tabernacle, Wilson, NC. Homegoing service will be on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11 am at L.N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle, 1800 Lane Street, Wilson, NC. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence and will assemble there at 10 am on Saturday in preparation for the funeral procession. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to New Christian Food Pantry, 111 Douglas Street, Wilson, NC.
