Elbert “Bent Back” Ward, 70, of 2104 Silver Leaf Road, Wilson, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015. A celebration of his life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mary Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 6202 Wiggins Mill Road, Lucama. Pastor Robert E. Wooten will officiate. Interment will follow at Mary Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Elbert Barnes, of Wilson, and George Allen, of Florida; seven sisters, Bettye Garner and Minister Bobbie Ward, both of Raleigh, Annie Doris Ward, of the home, Joan Farmer, Diane Davis and Cheleka Farmer, all of Wilson, and Theretha Ward Evans (Tony), of Greensboro; one brother, Robert Ward (Sabrina), of Wilson; four aunts, Addie Booth, of Meredithville, Virginia, Naomi Kent of Nashville, Ella Deans and Lena Kent, both of Wilson; a host of friends including a special friend, sister Kate Williams, of Wilson.
A public viewing will be held from 3 -5 p.m. Saturday at Carrons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends there from 7 -8 p.m. They will receive friends at all other times at the residence and will assemble there one hour prior to the service in preparation for the funeral procession.
