Elder William Arthur Barnes, age 87, of 144 Dawes Drive, Sharpsburg was called from labor to reward on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Elder Barnes was called to ministry July 30, 1978. He was the pastor of Fountain Primitive Baptist Church until his health declined in February 2018. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 1 pm at Tabernacle Temple of Jesus Christ, 1601 Lane Street Ext., Wilson. Elder Ernest Ray Melton will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Precious memories are cherished by his wife, Daisy Inez Barnes of the home; his daughters, Susan Williams, Helen Johnson, Ann Barnes all of Wilson, NC, Barbara Hankerson (Robbin) of Rocky Mount, NC and Edith Valentine (Reginald) of Nashville, NC; his sons, William G. Barnes of Elm City, NC, Timothy Barnes (Beverly) of Rocky Mt., NC, LaMarshall Barnes (Carolyn) of Pinetops, NC and James Barnes of the home; four sisters, Virginia Atkinson of Elm City, NC, Carolyn Batts (James), Sarah Alsup and Josephine Tyson all of Wilson, NC; three brothers, Archie Barnes, Jeremiah Barnes (Judy) of Elm City, NC and Walter Barnes (Shirley) of Newark, NJ; eleven grandchildren, Tanisha Barnes, Shannon Ehrenpreis, Kendra Williams, Jessica Barnes, Joseph Chandler, Brandon Barnes, Brittany Cherry, Candace Woodard, Tiffany Barnes, Mychal Bailey and Justin Barnes; fifteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held Tuesday from 3 pm to 6 pm at Carrons Funeral Home, 325 East Nash St., Wilson. The family will receive friends at the residence and will assemble there at 12 noon on Wednesday in preparation for the funeral procession.
