George Mitchell age 85 of 5214 Highway 264 Alternate, Wilson, North Carolina passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Wilson Medical Center.
George was the son of the late Jessie and Eva Sharpe Mitchell. Born in Wilson County, North Carolina he attended the public schools. After making the decision to serve our country, he enlisted in the United States Army. A World War II veteran, he served our country faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1946. Later, George began his career as a concrete truck driver.
Realizing a need for a supreme being in his life, George became a member of Rountree Missionary Baptist Church. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to remember him with love are his wife, Florene Anderson Mitchell of the home; his daughters, Sharon Mitchell of the home, Mildred Bullock, Angela Mitchell, Georgetta Mitchell all of Wilson, NC and Phyllis Diane Mitchell of Bailey, NC; his sons, Willie Deans (Odessa) of Lucama, NC, Jessie Mitchell (Frances) and Reginald Mitchell (Vanessa) of Wilson, NC; one sister, Marion M. Brown of Wilson, NC; two brothers, Clarence Ray Mitchell of Wilson, NC and Jessie James Mitchell (Bessie) of Washington, DC; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren, four aunts, Gladys Eatman, Lenna Kent, Earlie Simmons and Martha Blue all of Wilson, NC; two sisters-in-law, Deborah Mitchell and Deborah Yelverton (Roger) of Wilson, NC; two brothers-in-law, Milton Anderson (Marion) and Charlie Leon Anderson (Earlene) of Orlando, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday at 1 pm at Rountree Missionary Baptist Church 2110 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Wilson, North Carolina. The Rev. Steven Kent will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery Veterans Section.
A viewing will be held Thursday from 3 pm to 8:30 pm at Carrons Funeral Home with the family receiving friends there from 7 pm to 8 pm. They will receive friends at other times at 5214 Highway 264 Alt, Wilson, NC and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
