Javis Taff Artis, son of the late Jonah and Fannie Newsome Artis passed away on Monday, July 15, 2013. A celebration of his life and work will be held Sunday at 2 pm at L.N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle 1800 Lane St, Wilson, NC. The Rev. Anthony Worrells will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Javis, a native of Walstonburg, NC was a faithful member of St. Delight Missionary Baptist Church in Walstonburg. Having a desire to serve our country, he joined the United States Army in 1944 and fought courageously in World War II.
A viewing will be held Saturday from 1 pm to 4 pm at Carrons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 pm to 8 pm at St. Delight Church Speights Bridge Rd, Walstonburg. They will receive friends at other times at 1700 Lane St, Wilson and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
