On Thursday, August 23, 2012 God in His infinite wisdom and power called Marian Josephine Woodard Austin home to eternal rest.
Marian was the daughter of the late Joseph Davis and Lula Woodard Austin. She was born in Whitakers, North Carolina where she spent her formative years.
A faithful member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in New Rochelle, New York, Marian served as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Advisor. She was a life member of Pyramid Temple # 45, President of New Rochelle School Crossing Guards and recipient of the Police Commissioner's Thirty Years of Service Gold Pin. Marian was well known as a sixty year Breast Cancer Survivor. She was employed with the New Rochelle Police Department.
Marian enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Upon returning to North Carolina, she lived happily with nieces and nephews and attended Calvary Presbyterian Church (USA).
She was preceded in deaath by her parents, her step parents, her husband, Arthur Austin, Jr.; her son, Arthur "Curly" Austin, III; and her sister, Mary. Her memory will continue to linger in the hearts of those who loved her.
Loving memories are cherished by her brothers, James, Wilson, Joseph and Robert; her grandchildren, Sheena, Ashley and Kristopher; two great grandchildren, Morgan and Jada; sisters-in-law, Juanita, Amelia, Ester, Mary, Gladys, Barbara and Mary Ruth; her brotehr-in-law, Larry; daugter-in-law, Sheila; two special cousins, Lorine and Josephine; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A service of worship and thanksgiving will be held Wednesday at 6:30 pm at Calvary Presbyterian Church (USA) 209 N. Pender St, Wilson. The Rev. Dr. Janel Dixon will officiate. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 9:30 am at Barney T. McClanaham Funeral Chapel in New Rochelle, New York. The Rev. Dr. Joseph S. Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in Beechwood Cemetery New Rochelle, New York.
A viewing will be held Wednesday from 3 pm to 5 pm at Carrons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Calvary Presbyterian Church on Wednesday from 6 pm to 6:30 pm. They will receive friends at other times at 5530 Second Rd, Wilson and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
