Ms. Mary M. Hilliard age 78 of 611 Academy St, Wilson passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at Wilson Medical Center.
Mary was the daughter of the late Thurman and Mary Barnes Sanders. She spent her formative years in Wilson County where she attended the Wilson County Public Schools.
Later, Mary began her career at James I. Miller Tobacco Company and Tobacco Processors until her retirement.
Believing in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Mary joined Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of Choir #2 and the Seniorlets for many years.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 pm at L.N. Forbes Original Free Will Baptist Tabernacle 1800 Lane St Ext, Wilson, NC. Bishop Robert L. Gorham will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Loving memories are cherished by her daughters, Alma Hilliard of the home, Gloria Hilliard, Virginia Ruffin (Rev. John Ruffin) and Irene Meeks (Selby) all of Wilson, NC; her sons, Eddie Lee Ruffin (Gwendolyn) and Command Sergeant Major Eddie Lorenda Hilliard (Theresa) of Wilson, NC, Michael Anthony Hilliard (Sanuel) of Fayetteville, NC, Elbert Lee Hilliard of Durham, NC and Deacon Willie James Hilliard (Wadie) of Lexington, KY; two grandchildren whom she reared, Craig Tavoris Ruffin and John Ruffin, Jr.; four sisters, Pearlie "Bea" Jones of Fremont, NC, Susie "Sue" Isom, Doretha "Pat" Moody and Almeta "Joe" Rawls (Paul) all of Wilson, NC; thirteen special grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one godson, Christopher Batts; a sister-in-law, Mary Harris of Baltimore, MD; two brothers-in-law, William Thomas Hilliard (Mary) of Wilson, NC and John Hilliard (Selma) of Pikeville, NC; several nieces, including a special niece, Mary E. Hilliard of Wilson, NC, several nephews,a host of other relatives and friends, including her lifelong friends, Irene Hunter, Alberta King, Earlene Ruffin, Callie Williams, Thelma Rogers and Alma Ruffin.
A viewing will be held Friday form 3 pm to 5:30 pm at Carrons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 pm to 8 pm at Wilson Chapel Church 513 East Barnes St, Wilson. They will receive friends at other timnes at the residence of her daughter, Gloria 4331 Blazing Star Dr, Wilson, NC and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
