Funeral service for Mr. Michael S. Terrery age 51 of 300 Rogers Ave, Wilson who died Tuesday at Duke University Medical center Durham, North Carolina will be held Saturday at 1 pm at Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church 513 East Barnes St, Wilson. The Rev. Dr. Thomas L. Walker will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery Veterans Section.
Michael was educated in the Wilson County Public School System where he graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in 1978. While at Fike High School, he was very active and became the starting quarterback of the football team. He was a trailblazer as the first hich school African-American quarterback in Wilson County.
Michael attended North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham, North Carolina in the fall of 1978 and became the quarterback for the NCCU Eagles. Not having the funds to continue his eduation, Michael enlisted in the United States Army where he served our country faithfully.
Left to remember his precious memoires are his mother, Fannie Pearl Harris Terrery of Wilson, NC; his sister, Brenda Cordell (Johnnie) of Rocky Mt, NC; his brother, Vernard Terrery of Richmond, VA; his godparents, George & Ethel Leach of Wilson, NC; his godsister, Michelle Leach Hamer of Cary, NC; two nieces, Jasmine Armstrong (Colby) of FL; four nephews, Allegro Cordell (Cheryl), Brandon Spearman, Vernard Terrery, Jr. and Bernard Terrery all of Rocky Mt, NC; a special cousin, Pastor Dorothy Batts of Fayetteville, NC and a host of other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be held Friday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Carrons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 400 Pike St, Apt. K-101, Wilson and will assemble there one hour prior to service in preparation for the funeral procession.
