Pauline Glasper Canty

June 16, 1939 — December 20, 2012

Pauline Glasper Canty was born in Wilson, North Carolina to the late Robert Lee and Vernell Richardson Glasper. On Thursday, December 20, 2012, God in His infinite wisdom called her home to eternal rest.

Pauline spent her formative years in Wilson, North Carolina where she attended Wilson County Schools. After graduating from Springfield High School in 1959, Pauline moved to Washington, DC. It was there that she met and married Rev. Earnest Canty. Having a desire to further her education, Pauline enrolled in Washington, DC Nursing School where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. Upon becoming a registered nurse, she became employed with St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, DC where she later retired after thirty-three years of service. Having a great love for cooking, she enrolled in Cortez Peters Business College and later began her own catering service.

In her senior years, she and Rev. Canty moved back to Wilson, North Carolina to be closer to family.
Pauline loved the Lord and the fellowship at First Baptist Church in Lucama, North Carolina. A member of the Eastern Star Chapter #12 in Washington, DC, she served as Grand Worthy Matron. Pauline's quiet gentle and kind spirit will always remain in the hearts of those who loved her.

Survivors are her sisters, Viline Glasper Jenkins (George) of Tarboro, NC, Rosa Glasper Horton of Wilson, NC, Shirley Glasper Smith (Jimmy) of Landover, MD,Linda Glasper King of Raleigh, NC and Carolyn Glasper of Garner, NC; her brother, Willie Earl Glasper (Jennifer) of Olathan, KS; four aunts, Lillie Mae Finch and Hattie Parker of Washington, DC, Harriett Jean Bunch and Dorothy Mae Dunston of Baltimore, MD; two uncles, Udell Richardson of New Jersey and Marvin Richardson (Agnes) of Baltimore, MD; her stepdaughter, Earnestine Canty of Maryland; one stepgranddaughter; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life and work will be held Saturday at 1 pm at First Baptist Church 5151 Lucama Rd, Lucama, NC. The Rev. Jeffrey Simms will officiate. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

A viewing will be held Friday from 3 pm to 7 pm at Carrons Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence of George and Viline Jenkins, 200 Brandon Ave, Tarboro, NC and will assemble there at 11 am in preparation for the funeral procession.
